Volunteer Administrators - urgently required - start dates mid February and early March.
We have some opportunities that have arisen for volunteer administrators to assist with inputting duty advice paperwork onto a database. Training will be given on the software.
Applicants will need to have a reasonable and accurate typing speed (probably not less than 40 wpm); and have a good eye for detail.
The roles are not paid, and unfortunately the service cannot afford to pay travel expenses, however, candidates will get the opportunity to see at close hand the work of the duty advice team, the paperwork involved, advice given and outcomes of court hearings - and therefore carrying out these volunteer administration roles will put such candidates in a good position for applying for volunteer duty advice roles when they become eligible to apply.
These administrative volunteer roles are open to 2nd and 3rd year LLB undergraduates or those with an undergraduate degree in another subject and currently attending, or graduated from, a GDL course. Those eligible to apply for duty adviser roles are also free to apply for the administration roles.
Undertaking a volunteer administration role in no way by-passes the application and training process to become a duty adviser.
If you are interested in volunteering as an administrator, please email a copy of your CV and a cover letter setting out why you want the role and why you are suitable for it, to: dutyadvisers@gmail.com.
Additional Opportunities
We have set up a collaboration with a local CAB office, where some of our duty advisers, once they have completed their period of time with us, will be able to undertake a three month intern-ship, dealing with various areas, including housing, employment and benefits issues; this may include assisting with drafting defences, letter writing, and other administrative tasks. This particular CAB office has 23 different outreach projects, including a Children's Centre; Housing Associations; Mental Health Hospital; local refugee and asylum seekers agency and a local employment agency, so the variety of work is bound to include something that most law students are interested in.
We are also currently looking into collaborating with other agencies (currently in discussions with three law centres across London) that offer advice services free of charge to the public and who would benefit from having additional help from students on a pro-bono basis.
Keep an eye on this page for future updates.
