Wanted

1. Volunteer Duty Advisers

2. Volunteer Administrators (click here)

London

Posts are primarily in North West London. Further posts may become available in other areas of London, however these will be reserved to those who have completed at least one rotation in NW London.

Interviews and assessments for all posts take place in North West London. Training is a compulsory element of taking up a volunteer role.

There are many people who find themselves facing court proceedings for possession of their homes. Often they do not know their rights, or the possible defences that may be available to them. They may feel powerless, sidelined, frightened about appearing before a judge, and are often desperate to receive any help which may allow them to stay in their homes.

Our Duty Advice Service, since its inception, has prevented outright possession in over 90% of the mortgage arrears cases who have approached us for assistance, and we usually have success in over 80% of rental cases too.

You can help us to continue with this success by applying to become a volunteer adviser.

The application process is competitive and you will require a qualifying law degree/CPE/GDL and have completed, or be undertaking, the BPTC/LPC.

Those with specific relevant experience without a law degree/BPTC/LPC may also be considered, so please feel free to apply, or to contact us to discuss your specific experience.

You can contact DutyAdvisers@gmail.com for an application pack, however we would prefer for you to use the online application form as this saves time.  You will only be able to submit an application during the time frame specified for any given application cycle.

Feel free to email us on the above email address to request a date/time to come into the court to meet us prior to making an application if you feel the need to verify that we are who we say we are.

NB: The original recruitment page for volunteers is defunct - all applications must be made via this site.  You can contact the scheme coordinator on 020 8937 2781 to verify this.

Summer Application Cycle

Application cycle dates for posts starting in June 2012. Please note that the following dates have been changed in order to take into consideration exam dates and the OLPAS application timetable.

Main applications close: 5pm 18th May 2012
Rolling Applications open6 pm 18th May. Those entering the rolling application phase will be assessed as and when they apply. There is a quick turnaround for the legal questions, usually within 24 hours of submitting your application form, so please set aside time to undertake the questions (we will email you to double check that you are available after receiving your application). Interviews are always at short notice for rolling applications, so it is likely your interview will take place the following Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday following marking of your legal questions - again, please ensure your availability. There are still roles available, so applying at this stage does not disadvantage you in any way.

We also have vacancies for admin/data input roles - please see the relevant page for how to apply.  Those who aren't eligible to apply for DA roles may be able to apply for admin roles instead if they have relevant experience.

Please note that the main application cycle dates are fixed unless the Duty Advice Service team are unavailable. Please read the Guidelines for Applications page.

Time Commitment: you will be expected to commit to half a day per week for a minimum of three months. Some volunteers will be asked to cover the cross-over period between one cycle and the next, which generally means they will be asked to come in for a period of time up to four weeks past the three month period.
